Where's Elder Griffin?
Of course we were hoping Tyson would call from the airport last night! Lauren and Caden slept on our bedroom floor so they could talk in case he called. Zack and Kamryn were going to, but fell asleep in the basement watching a movie. You snooze, you loose, ha ha ha! Anyway, I slept with my phone. We figured if he could call it would be between 1 and 4 a.m. our time. I was too excited to sleep much, and at 2:45 a.m., my cell phone rang and we knew it was Elder Griffin! I figured he was calling from Uruguay to tell me he was there safely, but he said he was still in Buenos Aires, at the harbor waiting to get on a boat. Because of the volcano in Chile, many airports in South America, including the one in Buenos Aires and the one in Montevideo, were closed and all flights were cancelled. He said he didn't know what was going on, just that they were crossing the river to Montevideo on a boat. I wondered when the boat was leaving, how big the boat was, if they were all going together, how long it would take to get to Uruguay by boat, he didn't know any of that. The control freak in me was freaking out, needless to say! I asked if he could call or email when he got to Uruguay and he said he didn't know but he would if he could. We talked for about 45 seconds and he said his phone card was running out pretty soon so I gave the phone to Lauren for a second, and he told her the weather there was really cold, then he talked to Rob for about 30 seconds and said his time was running out and he'd try to call right back. We waited for awhile hoping the phone would ring again, but it didn't. So, then I was too worried and frustrated to sleep. That 45 seconds was just enough to make me miss him even more! We haven't heard anything today, so I am just hoping no news is good news. I would love to hear that he made it there safely. This is when a mama has to use her faith, I guess! He did have time to tell me his new p-day will be on Monday, so we might not hear from him till then. Hopefully we won't have to wait that long! I am trying to be patient, but I don't know if I can be THAT patient! I just hope he made it to the mission home... and I hope he's happy...and I hope the mission president sends me an e-mail...or let's Ty call us...or something....!
