Okay, so obviously I've got a story to tell but I'll start with the normal stuff then tell you all about proselitismo.
So, this was our last full week at the MTC! The Latinos that are here now leave with my district so we all go out to Uruguay together. We are going to leave early Tuesday morning and we have a meeting on Monday to get our tickets and all the information about everything. I also think we email on Monday before we leave, so I'll email again and answer all the emails from today. Also, I'm not sure if we can call in the airport or not, but if I can, I will.
Okay, so proselitismo on Saturday...
We got dropped off in the wrong area, like 20 miles away from the area we planned for, so we didn't know what was going on, so we said a prayer as always, and went to work anyway. We knocked on doors ALL DAY and nobody was letting us in. Finally, we came up to this lady's house and she was outside spraying off her sidewalk. We started talking to her about random stuff, like the weather, and where we were from, so she wouldn't shut us down instantly like everyone else. After about 3 minutes, we told we were missionaries and we had a message for her about eternal families and Jesu Cristo. She said she was interested but she wouldn't let us in, and we REALLY wanted to go in to talk to her. So, we kept asking her if we could go in and teach and she kept saying no, not today. And then I asked, "What problems do you have in your life that we can help you with?" Then, suddenly, she totally changed and said..."I've go so many problems, I have ten kids and they have problems with drugs and alcohol and I really need help with this." Then, Elder Coon was like..."Can we say a prayer for you and ask Heavenly Father to help you?"...and she said "Yes, that would be great." Then I said, "Okay...but first, we need to go into your house where its quiet so we can be reverent", and she was like...okay:) So, we go into her house! Once we got into her house that was literally the size of a pantry, we sat down and started talking a little bit more about prayer and Heavenly Father and families and stuff, and then after all that, I asked if I could say the prayer...so, I prayed for her (Alejandra), her family, and that we could have the spirit in the lesson. (She thought we were only there to pray, but we taught her a whole lesson, haha!) So, after the prayer we just went right into the first discussion. Everything. Joseph Smith, the restauracion, the Book of Mormon, and pretty much the whole first discussion. The spirit was soooo strong, and we know that she could feel the spirit. At one point we asked her..."how do you feel right now?" And she said..."really comforted. I feel comforted"! We said..."that's the Holy Ghost telling you that these things we are teaching you are true." And she was like..."I know." AHHHHH! Perfect situation. So, after we taught her the first lesson we started talking about baptism, cause Elder Coon and I knew we had to commit her...and we were asking her if she wants to be clean and live with her family forever, and she said...."Yes, of course. That's exactly what I want." Then, I pulled out a picture of Jesus being baptized and said..."This is how Jesus got baptized, and he set the example for us, do you believe in Jesus?" (she said yes) then, I said..." Alejandra, will you follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?" and she sat there for a couple of seconds...and said..."Yes!!!"
IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME! Elder Coon and I were trying our hardest not to scream with joy in the middle of her house and I was trying not to cry, haha--it was amazing. Then, just to make sure, haha, Elder Coon was like, "wait, in this church, the Church of Jesus Christ???" And she's like..."Ya!" And we just told her how grateful we were that she let us in and we promised her about the blessings of being baptized and talked for a few more minutes and set up an appointment for this week, or last proselitismo. We were getting ready to leave when she said..."You now, I wasn't going to let you in, but when my little boy (about Cooper's age) saw you two walking down the street, he came running up to me and told me to let the tall red head and the white guys in, and that you were good people, and that's how I knew I needed to let you in."
It was the coolest experience ever. I know the spirit was prompting that little 3 year old boy to say that, and its so awesome. Then at the end of the lesson we had her say the prayer and she just started crying....it was so spiritual and we all knew that she knew it was true. We committed her to read Moroni 10 and pray about Joseph Smith and then she walked us out and gave us both big hugs and said..."Thanks so much, I've been waiting for you."
Then we said goodbye and Elder Coon and I waited till we got around the corner to freak out and do a chest bump in the street, haha! I was shaking so bad and so was Elder Coon cause the spirit was so strong in her house. I CAN'T WAIT to go back on Saturday, then hand her off to the area missionaries, and continue all of this amazing stuff in URUGUAY! Sheesh, it was amazing! Sorry I have to type so fast, I've gotta go. But I mailed a letter to Hayley about all this that is a lit more detailed so she can show you when she gets it.
PS, I haven't got the package you sent yet, but I should soon. If not, they'll forward it to Uruguay. Gotta go!
I love you all! The Church is true!
Elder Griffin
