Elder Grffin: Ipoh is Just on Fire!

Hey guys! Sounds like it's been a really fun week back at home with Tyson's homecoming and all! Aiyo, saya hendak bahwa saya boleh datang dan dengar..... :/ Oh, well, everything here in Ipoh is just as swell as ever-lah! So, as always, here is the lowdown on this past week. Aiyo, ada banyak untuk menulis.... Okay, so as you already know, Malaysia is a Muslim country, so when I'm riding my bike everyday, I hear "Call to Prayer". If you want to hear what I hear everyday, look it up on YouTube. It sounds really cool and it's actually in a key called Harmonic Minor, which is always used for "Arabic-Aladdin" type music. Also, everything here is British style: the cars drive on the left side of the road, so that will be fun returning, and everything is spelled like "flavour, colour, neighbour" like that. And people always think that we're from England. I guess they can't tell the difference between an English accent and an American accent. Okay, so here's what happened this past week! Nikmat! (Enjoy!)

So, we were helping a Sister in the Ward, Sister L., to cut down her banana trees because her neighbors were complaining about it. So we cut them down, no pictures though, sorry. Did you know that the inside of a banana tree trunk is edible? You boil it and then you mix it with curry and spices. I eat a lot of curry here. A lot of the food here is Indian food, actually. Lot's of curry and roti and masala. So, if you ever have the opportunity to go to an Indian restaurant back in the States, you should go!

So, we visited a potential investigator, named J., and we talked to her for about two hours answering all of her questions. She's really smart about the Bible, but we hope that she will also read and start to pray about the Book of Mormon, because she would know that it is true. "All who believe the Bible will also believe the Book of Mormon." -Chapter Heading, Moroni 8. (I think). So the day that we visited her, it turns out, was a day that we thought everything was going to fall through. It did, but it turned out for the best and I'll tell you why. So, the whole day we were pretty much "led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand what [we] should do", because all of our planned lessons fell through. So, right before we were going to teach J, an old man named Mr. T came and talked to us. He asked us to teach him about the Church, and in return, he would teach us a little bit of Chinese, so of course we said yes.

Here's what happened when we visited him: First off, he was hilarious, I don't know why! He was like, "Oh, please, do sit. May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?" And he was way formal. Then he taught us how to count to 6 in Chinese (which I already knew), and then he goes off telling us his whole life story. How he retired in 1988, and like all of these other things. Meanwhile, some odd woman is singing her lungs out, in Opera-style, and Elder Snyder in I have our sweat-rags in front of our faces, trying as hard as we can not to laugh. It was so funny! Well, we taught him about Prophets, and we're going to meet with him again and teach him about the Restoration. The morning before, I praying that we would find someone who sincerely wanted to learn, and Mr. T found us!

So, we were busy doing a lot of service all this week. Helping fix the church computers, the banana tree, cleaning the church......lots of stuff. Anywho--we went and visited a woman who was sick with food poisoning in the Hospital, and we gave her a blessing. She got released the next day, but then her kidneys started to fail, so she was readmitted into the ICU. We visited her family--her sister thought that I was 26, for some reason, not 19. That was really funny! And here is where it gets awesome.

So, Brother C (he visited J with us), follows us sometimes. He followed us yesterday. Well, Y, who was baptized, is already doing missionary work in his own family! We managed to teach his sister, along with another family that wanted to learn! So, in reality, we are teaching three families. Y's family (his parents and brothers and sisters), his sister's family (she has kids and a husband), and then this other family. Last night we taught all in Malay, about Jesus Christ. It's good to speak Malay again! But then, afterwards, they told us that they prefer English, because they don't really understand the Malay terminology for the Gospel. So now we will teach them in English. So, that's 5 new investigators. Including Mr. Ting, that's 6 obtained this week! Ipoh is just on fire!

I gave a talk in Sacrament meeting about General Conference. One of the members flaked and so I had to fill the gap. Fun, right? But, no, the talk was all good, and the Spirit was really strong, so it was really awesome!

I bought a bike. A new one. So, I don't have any money....I wish I would've known that I was going to buy one last week, I would have asked you to send some, but I'm doing okay. The bike was RM1250, so like $400, but it's a really good bike....just if it gets stolen, then I'm in a lot of trouble. So I pulled $200 out of my emergency fund, so I could finish paying for the bike and maybe buy some food to last me for the next month and a half, because I took all of the money out of my support to pay for it. The bike was originally like RM1300 or RM1400, but the man was nice and gave me a discount. It also has a 5 year warranty, but if it gets stolen, I can't replace it. It was either buy a new bike or repair the old bike and pay like RM300 and leave it here when I left, so I just bought a new bike. The old bike's brakes wouldn't work, and I wanted to live, so I bought the new bike recently. I would've waited month or two but.....yeah.

As for N, we haven't contacted his family yet. But we need to. So we will visit them soon, I hope. And with Indonesia, I traveled alone. It was District Conference in Ipoh, so my comp wasn't alone. But I was kind of scared, I didn't know what I was doing or where I was, I just did the best I could and tried to make it in and out of both countries. So, with my passport, it was either I had to leave West Malaysia and Sabah, or get deported back to the US. And I wanted to stay here, so I flew to Medan and...yeah, the rest is history. Elder Schuetz tried to get into Sarawak, but he got deported back to KK with airport security 24/7 and everything, so now he's an office Elder in Singapore.

Well, that's all I have for now. My computer won't allow me to send any pictures, I don't know why, but I'll try again next week! I love you all! Bye!

Dengan ikhlas,
Elder Joshua H. Griffin

We love you!!!

Elder Joshua Griffin: Six Month Mark!

Hey-lah! Ah, Tyson, I can't believe that you are already home! It seems like yesterday you were opening up your mission call! Mom, you need to show him the video of me opening mine. I hope that all is well at home and that you all had a very joyful reunion. I can't wait to return, and speaking of that, I just passed my 6 month mark! What? Sudah (Already)? How does this happen? Aiyo..... (I-oh).... It's an Asian sound, I know. And I realized that I started doing the head swerve/bobble like Indians,  so....I do it unconsciously, and let's just say I'll be different when I get back....  Oh, yeah, I almost forgot, Yoges was taught before I got here, so I got lucky having his baptism the week after I arrived.

So, here is the gist of the past week lah!

First off....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAMRYN!!!!

I hope you have a good one! I miss you a ton!

Okay, so here's the order: Investigators, my Medan Trip (to Sumatra, Indonesia) and my stay in the Airport, General Conference, and the sad news.

I wasn't able to meet with a lot of people this week, but here we go.

M: He's doing a little better. He's that old single man who got ripped off 120,000 Ringgit, if you remember. So, we go in to teach him at a member's house, Sister P's. So we ride up on our bikes and he's like "Heavenly Father, right?" And we had just taught him about prayer and so we were like, "Yeah, that's right." So we go in and we start teaching him, and he turns to my comp., Elder Snyder, and says, "So, I need your help, Heavenly Father." So, OBVIOUSLY, he thought that instead of our title being Elders that it was Heavenly Fathers! Haha we had a good laugh about that after we left. He was also praying to the Virgin Mary, and he asked, "Would she get mad if I started praying only to God?" We laughed and said that she prayed to God also, and she wants him to pray to God. So, we cleared up prayer with him, and he can pray anywhere, anytime, and he doesn't need a picture of God to pray to Him., so he is doing better. He actually came to one of the sessions of Conference, but he couldn't visit any others.... :/

Mr. Y: He owns a bread shop. We somehow ended up talking about the Second Coming and the wicked being burned when Christ comes again.  And we talked more about the Book of Mormon. He's really good, and we're going to commit him to baptism soon.

J and B: They don't want us to ask them to commit to anything. We still are teaching them, but they said "We'll just 'surprise' you at church!" We're a little sad, but that's Blackjack Joe's personality. So,  we hope that he will keep coming and that they will eventually want to convert. They really like us and they love talking to us, but they just wanted to be honest. I prefer honesty, actually. It's good to clear up sad things like that beforehand, so they don't reject us the day right before their baptism. I've heard of stories like that happening. Really sad.

So, that's all I met with this week, due to all-day General Conference and my two-day trip to Medan.

Medan: Okay, so I get on a bus at 8 PM where I have a four hour bus ride to the KL Airport. So, I go and check in, get like 4 hours of sleep, and then found out that my plane changed gates, so I found that. I went through security, and they don't allow water on planes (I always forget. So, I tried for like ten minutes to open my carry-on, because the lock jammed. I finally open it, dump out the water, and I was literally the last person on the plane. I was safe by like 5 minutes, no joke. So, I land in Medan, watch terrible Indonesian soap operas for 6 hours in a non-conditioned airport--I had to pay 100 Ringgit for a visa that filled up a full page of my passport. So now I have three terrible, useless stamps. Odds are I will need to get a new one before I return home. Then, I pay 75,000 Rupiah for the airport's "service", and then I get on my flight and pray that I am safe and on the right flight. By the way, don't worry, 50 Ringgit in Indonesia is like 250,000 Rupiah. They just add useless zeroes. A soda was like 5,000 Rupiah. I have pics :) So, I return to KL and I am praying that they'll let me through immigration. It said I entered/exited Medan the same day, which looks bad on a Passport, plus the three full pages. The man takes it, says, "Why are you here in Malaysia? Vacation?" I said, "I do volunteer and service work." He nodded, and gave me the 90 day stamp! A miracle from On High! I was ready sing the "Song of Redeeming Love" I almost starting kneeling down praying the Airport, I was so grateful! Then, after that, I struggled to find my bus, took a 4 hour bus ride back to Ipoh, arrived at about Midnight, and went home. So I was running on like 5 hours of sleep. Lots of fun lah!

Okay, so, basically, General Conference was the best thing ever! I loved it! Elder Perry, followed by President Monson, followed by Elder Holland! All of the talks were great, especially those three, and right in a row, no less! I love how Elder Holland takes small, seemingly non-"important" miracles, and blows it up! It was fantastic and I loved every second of Conference! You're so right, Mom, it went by way too fast!

So, the sad news. You may have noticed that Nantha's name wasn't up there. Here's what happened. Nantha had cancer, and we didn't know about it. He was feeling sick, and on Monday evening (Google translate this part, it's a little gross) dia bermula untuk muntah darah. So, his family took him to the hospital and he passed away there. Then he was cremated, according to his family's tradition. So it was really sad because we love him and miss him, and we saw him two days before his death. But, now, he's learning in the Spirit world, and we have the opportunity to teach his family, so we're going to let them adjust and then help them in any way possible, even if they don't want to hear the Gospel yet.

So, that was my week! Really, really good apart from the death of Nantha, but he's in a better place. I makes me really grateful for the Plan of Salvation, and I know that my testimony is getting stronger every day. I can feel it! And my Malay getting better, although I'm in a mostly English area. I was translating Conference in my head, and for language study, I translated The Testaments, and Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration. So all is well, Tyson, I'm glad you're back home safe, Happy Birthday Kamryn, and I love and miss all of you!

Jumpa satu hari nanti,
Elder Joshua H. Griffin

Elder Tyson Griffin: Chau Uruguay, Hello America!

Well, I don't have much to say.... haha. I figure I'll wait three days to tell you all in person what I did this last week/2 years instead of trying to type it out and pay money for it here in the cyber. I'm so excited!!!! I'm all packed, tomorrow at 7 am I take a bus to Montevideo for the temple session, family home evening, exit interview with president and whatnot, aaand Thursday we have LIFTOFF. I love planes! I probably won't call at the airports- so just wait in suspense for me in Salt Lake haha. I'm more nervous than you all are x10. Trust me. My tummy gets butterflies thinking about it. BUT I CAN'T WAIT! Love you all!

Elder Griffin signing off for the last time here in Uruguay.

See you Friday:)

Elder Joshua Griffin: A Book of Mormon A Day

Hey, everybody! How is everyone-lah?

I miss all of you, but jangan risau all is well! So, this week has just been a fireball of Gospel! The people here in Ipoh are really receptive to the Gospel--we've been handing out a Book of Mormon a day, sometimes more, and that's just door contacting! A lot of our lessons and new investigators come from these. So, here's the basic low-down on what happened this week. We had a baptism! My first week in Ipoh, and a baptism! The guy is really cool, he's going to be a Branch President someday, I'm sure. His name is Yogesvaren, but we just call him Yoges. He's really quite legit! It was a great day on Saturday! Speaking of Saturday, I'm watching General Conference this upcoming week, so I'm really looking forward to that! I am missing the cinnamon rolls and the breakfast casserole, however.

So, our investigators:

X and P: They are from Mainland China. They only know Mandarin, so I've been talking to them a little bit in Chinese. I can't remember very much, and it makes me wish that I would've studied Chinese more. We do teach them English, every Friday, and they understand quickly and use it during our discussions. Sister C helps to translate. We're actually going to go visit them tonight and we just taught them who Jesus Christ was. Now, we're going to teach about the Restoration--hopefully they can understand it all. X is getting baptized May 15th, and P will get baptized when she returns from China in June!

M: He's an older man, who's wife literally avoids him. They aren't divorced, but she lives at her mother's house. M lives with his son. It's sad, M's "friends" are all free-loaders who totally take advantage of him. He ended up giving RM 120,000 to one of his friends! Can you believe that?! That's so much money! But he's really been humbled lately and he had committed to a soft baptismal date!

N: He still has the same problems. Family, financial, and other problems. We are teaching him and that's bringing him the happiness and peace that he's craving. He doesn't really understand prayer very well.... We were telling him, "Okay, when we pray, we fold our arms and close our eyes." So he goes to do it, but instead, he just raises his hands to the Heavens, so we just let it slide. When we prayed at the end, we knelt down, and asked him to pray. He did, but he just didn't talk, so we knelt there for like three minutes and eventually, my comp was like, "Well, we gotta go, thanks for letting come, N!" haha! It was really funny! He also confused the words "faith" and "fate", because of his accent.... That was an adventure....

So this week it has been POURING rain! The streets literally have rivers in them! I was riding my bike and my feet were getting covered by water! I love it! I have a picture of me all drenched, so you'll see that. And, I don't know why, but it gets really cold when it rains, even though it's realistically 72 degrees with rain. I'm in trouble when I come home in October 2014, I'll freeze to death!

I am leaving on Thursday to Medan, and also returning that same day. Medan, Indonesia is an island West of KL.

I also went on exchanges with the ZLs from KL. I went with Elder Scott. It was...alright. We had our house get fixed by the owner, and he decided just to light up a cigarette in our kitchen, so we weren't happy about that, because our house smelled like cigarette smoke for a while... :/

I am keeping that broken-down bike, but I do have a helmet now. I am speaking Malay here, but not everyday. I do translate the Joseph Smith movie into Malay during Language Study, so that's keeping me busy learning a lot of words. "Shell" is "cangkeran", if you were wondering. So, to say, "Joseph, this is my Beloved Son. Hear Him!" it is "Joseph, inilah Putera-Ku yang Kukasihi! Dengarlah Dia!" Mouthful, kan?

Well, all is well, I hope that Tyson is safe flying home! I'm all healthy and the Spirit is awesome! It is SO strong here, all the time! I love it!

Dengan ikhlas dan sayang,

Elder Joshua H. Griffin

**We received Josh's letter in the mail last week explaining what had happened a few weeks ago resulting in his group of missionaries having to leave the country.  They had flown to Singapore to a zone conference, and flew back to  East Malaysia into a different airport than they usually do. They always go through  customs without ties and name tags, to be discreet, and the first four missionaries went through customs ahead of Josh and his companion.  When Josh and his comp went through, the officers asked if they were with the group that just went through, and Josh said yes but his comp misunderstood and said no.  That made the officers suspicious, so they took all six of the missionaries into an interrogation room and detained them.  They confiscated their passports and said they had broken the law by doing a u-turn, which is where they leave the country, renew their passports, and come back in.  They were held for six hours and told they had 7 days to leave the country or they would be imprisoned and then deported back to the US.  They were finally let go, without their passports.  They contacted the mission president who told them to submit to whatever the government wanted them to do.  They all went back the next day for more questioning, and after a few days of working with the government the mission pres. was able to have the time extended to 30 days for them to have to leave the country.  They were able to get their passports returned, but they all have some sort of stamp on them that will forbid them from coming back, if I understand it right.  So, it was pretty upsetting for the missionaries involved, and after lots of rearranging, they are all out East Malaysia and into their new areas.  Josh seems to be loving West Malaysia, so we're thankful that it all turned out ok!

Elder Tyson Griffin: Last Week of Teaching

Hey everyone! This is going to be a short email cause we are in a horrible cyber next to our house (the only one that's open) and we need to get out pretty quick.. but this week has been great! We continue here working hard trying to get people to church to be able to progress with them. We are teaching a lady named Perla Torres who is really cool, but she is learning with the Jehovah's Witnesses and she is scared that they are going to get mad if they find out that we are giving her the discussions, even though she knows what we are teaching her is true. So, it's been kind of hard to get her out to church, because she's worried somebody will see her go haha. It's a small town- word spreads fast I guess. But we are working hard. The stake president came to church yesterday here in Varela to visit and make sure everything is going well, so that was good. Yesterday was my last sacrament meeting in Uruguay. I can't believe it! I packed quite a bit up today and I've got tons of room in my luggage, cause I'm leaving a lot of stuff for other missionaries to use. So this week is a normal week, my last one. Next week on Monday is a work day, then Tuesday is pday-- we might actually be in Montevideo a day early so I can visit some converts but we'll see what happens. I'll try to find a little time to get to a cyber on Tuesday, but if not we'll see each other on Friday haha so not a huge deal. My comp is doing great! He is learning super fast and speaks Spanish really well already. When  I get home I'm going to get to go visit his family and drop off a couple of things so it'll be fun. Easter was same old here, there were a lot of Catholic people that went to the misa? I don't remember what it's called in English. But it was good, we just worked like normal. This weekend we are going to 33 for conference wooohoo! I can't wait. It'll be weird seeing Salt Lake on tv so soon before I come home haha. Sweet. I'm excited to see everyone at the airport! It's all still so surreal to me, doesn't seem  like it's happening. It'll be awesome though. Well, gotta go. I'm sending a pic of me in my Brazilian hammock that I bought for super cheaphaha. Good times. I like cheap stuff from South America. Anyway. Love you all, see you soooon!

**Hi friends and family, this might be Ty's last email from Uruguay.  Hopefully we'll hear from him next week, too.  He will be home on Friday, April 12.  We're sooo excited!  His homecoming will be on April 21 at 11:00, but I'll send more info on that when it gets closer.  If you'd like to stop by and visit him before then, I'm sure he'd love it!

Thanks,
Kristin

Elder Joshua Griffin: I Already Love Ipoh!

Wow! What an AMAZING week! I already love Ipoh!

So, I will begin in chronological order. So, first of all, Elder Schuetz and I were getting ready to leave Sabah. He was going to Sibu, Sarawak. I'm in Ipoh, West Malaysia. So, we parked our bikes at a bus stop because we were visiting the First Counselor in the District Presidency, and his wife. We didn't have time to get our bikes in order to get home in time, and Elder Schuetz's bike had a flat tire, so we left the bikes at a bus stop, in plain sight. Bad idea. So we go back the next day, and our bikes are gone. Somebody stole our bikes! They literally cut through the chains to get to our bikes and then they took our helmets and our bikes. So, I was bike-less in Ipoh, which is mainly a biking area. I have another one now--really old, hand-me-down, but I'm very very grateful for it. Some old Elder left it behind for this situation. So, now I will tell you how I traveled to Ipoh.

So, I had a flight at 9:55 AM. Elder Schuetz's flight was at 6:45 AM, so we both went solo. It was actually scary--I didn't want to get lost and end up somewhere weird  and I had no cell phone, so I just had to "bite the bullet" and trust that the Lord would help me get to Ipoh. So I took a 2 hour flight to Kuala Lumpur, then after that I took a train to place called KL Central. There, I took another train for two hours to get to Ipoh, and that was just a hassle--it was hard to understand the people's bad English and terrible accents. I actually prefer Malay because I can understand them when they speak it and it's just easier for both of us. So, at the train station, I met Sister Chris, the woman who gives the missionaries TONS of food (and I'm not joking, I already have a LOT from her), picked me up, and then I met Elder Snyder. We sent to go visit a couple of Hindus-turned-Mormon (new converts), named Ester and Manjit. They are so cool and so good!

The branch here in Ipoh is so strong and amazing, and so are all of our investigators! This area is already better than KK! Zac, Lauren, Kamryn, Caden, and Cooper, y'all listen up, ya hear? GO ON A MISSION NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!! IT IS THE BEST AND IT WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Elder Schuetz tried to go to Sibu, but they kicked him back to KK because of his Passport. So we are going to to go Indonesia, both of us, and then we'll come back to our respective areas.

So, I arrived at Ipoh, and right away, Sister C takes us to this cool Chinese restuarant. Most of the people in Ipoh are either Chinese or Indian, so there's a lot of "Waaah" and head-bobbing. So, at the table next to us, there's these teenagers celebrating something, and they're all drinking their beer and laughing and doing "cheers" in Cantonese (that's a big language here, apart from English; very little Malay....). So then they come over to me and Elder Snyder and they're like, "Hey, white guys, come drink with us! Come on, come drink!" And me and Elder Snyder are just like, "No, we don't drink." And they kept on pestering us but eventually they left us alone. So then this lady brings in a cake an they start singing happy birthday. Then one of them says, "Hey, white guys, the birthday boy wants a picture with you!" (Which actually happened in Sabah; white people are really famous in Malaysia). So we get up to go take the picture and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, they pull up this poster that says: "WELCOME TO IPOH ELDER GRIFFIN!" Dang, they got me so good! Then they sang, "Welcome to Ipoh" to the tune of Happy Birthday. So Sister C and Elder Snyder orchestrated this whole prank, and it was so good! The teens were the youth of the ward, they weren't really drinking, and then we all ate together! It was so much fun!

So, now..... INVESTIGATORS

BJ: He used to be a Sniper for the Malaysian army. He would go out in the jungle and hunt down people with his German Shepard  legend has it that he can live a week without food, and that he is a really good sniper.  He was also an Executioner--he would hang people at the gallows, and he had to wear one of those black masks so people couldn't see his face. But he's really good! He can recognize the Spirit, like when he came to Church yesterday. So, the first time I met him, we drove up to his house on our bikes, and he is BLARING oldies music. We walk up to his gate, and he says, "Hey, my bros saya!" So he lets us in and we teach about the Restoration. He kept on saying, "Hey baby...yeah baby..." Stuff like that! haha he is hilarious! He was like "you are like my children. And it's a rough road, it's a rough road, baby, so if you need a place to stay, you can sleep upstairs." And he rolls his r's a lot, so repeat that like in Blackjack Joe-accent! He is so cool! And he also said "Get me baptized before you leave, baby," So he's pretty much really legit!

His wife, Barbara, is also really cool.

So, more investigators--

N.- He is an Indian. This is how the Lord led us to him: we were trying to find people to contact and to give a Book of Mormon to. President Mains wants us to give out a Book of Mormon a day, because the Book of Mormon in Malay is finally available! Literally, Praise the Lord! So we were trying to find people, we had no success at all for a few hours, so we thought, Well, let's just go to a member's house. We were going to visit them anyways tonight. So we did, and the door is open but nobody is home. So Elder Snyder says, "I remember meeting a guy around here, named Nantha. He's cool, but him and his wife got into a fight when I first met him, and it got really awkward....so I left." So I said, "Boleh" (Can) and we went. So, pretty much, here's Nantha's story: His family is falling apart. His wife and kids don't respect him, he's working ALL the time, trying to support them, he's overwhelmed with grief and with sadness, and he had been praying for help, and so God sent us! So, due to my previous experiences, I connected with him really well, and we taught him about the Atonement and Repentance, how it takes away grief.

Then, I gave him a blessing of comfort, and after the blessing he said, "Elders, thank you so much. My heart doesn't hurt anymore--I feel...relief!" And it was great. He just needed to express his frustrations. So I told him to pray to God and to ask  for help and strength and for forgiveness, and also to express his love to his wife and kids. So I hope that it will help. But it was really good. He had these HUGE dogs that were freaking out when we pulled up, and when we left, they were just quiet! It was totally the Spirit!

So, yeah...we have some more, but I haven't met them yet... Yoges, Xavier, and his mom. Did I mention that we teach English on Fridays?

Thank you all so much for the picture! Everybody looks so good, and the little kids are all growing up WAY too fast! It isn't fair-bah! Oh well, apa boleh buat, kan? (What can you do, right?) Speaking of little kids, I'm sending a picture of a boy named Dasheen. He's Indian, two years old, and he reminds me exactly of Cooper, especially his personality! And I'm also sending some other pictures. I realized that I forgot to send the picture of the Spider, so I'll send that too!

When does Tyson get home (what date)? How is everybody? Any new and exciting news?

Okay, time to answer your questions. So, to go on really long trips like Gunung Kinabalu and The Tip of Borneo, we have a bus guy, named Stanley. It's 50 per day per person, which is really cheap. So, it's a lot of fun, and it was great! And, no, there are no new missionaries going into KK. The President it really focusing on building up the big branches so that we can have stakes, which is a really smart idea, actually. And it was me, Elder Schuetz, Sister Caballa, and Sister Christiansen which had to leave--but I hope that I can go back to Sabah someday. I'm not sure yet.... Ipoh....I'm not sure about the size, but the traffic is actually better here. I feel a lot safer--I don't have buses almost grazing me when I ride by bike now! Hooray!

And I am feeling happy and healthy and safe, so no worries! Well, that's all I have this week, it's way fun here! I love you all and I can't wait for General Conference! Well, that's my week! I love you all! Bye!

Dengan ikhlas,

Elder Joshua Griffin: From KK to Ipoh

Hey, keluarga saya!

Hey, guys, what's up? So, I'm sitting here in this Internet kedai, e-mailing.... Okay, so mom, I'm going to answer your questions first.

Yes, I am safe. So you don't need to worry. I am moving from KK (dang it!) and I'm actually going to Western Malaysia, to a city called Ipoh. There's only two Elders in Ipoh, me and my new comp (who I'll meet on Thursday), Elder Snider. But I've heard that out of all of West Malaysia, Ipoh is the place to be! Apparantly, there's this amazing member names Sister Christine who just loves the missionaries. I know an Elder who got transferred to Ipoh and gained 30 pounds because Sister Christine was always inviting the Elders over to eat, so I'm looking forward to that!

As for the giant spider, I did get a picture, and I do have my camera today, so you'll get some for sure!

As for my investigators.....we're not sure. Elder Putnam is going to stay here in KK after moving to Singapore for a while. He is actually being transferred to my branch, KK1. So there will be 6 missionaries total in KK, I think. Both of the Sisters here got transferred to Singapore, (which is sad because one of them, Sister Christiansen, already served like 12 months in Singapore.) Elder Schuetz is staying in East Malaysia, but he's going to Sibu, where he will get to learn a native language, Iban.

And President Mains wansn't very happy with all of this fiasco, but it's over now and we can move on. He's really focusing on two areas: KL and Kuching. Those are the two closest places to having a Stake.   Was your mission president worried or upset about whatever it was that happened? I hate all these mysteries!  It's hard to be patient:)

I'm feeling better, and my breathing is better. I still am a little congested with a cough, but that should go away in time. So, as for the CD's, please send me some. We have CD players in the apartments and homes, so a CD would be something great to get! I've gone through all of the songs on my i-Pod like 20 times already! haha! As for the piano, I did play it in Church on Sunday, but that's been the first time in a while. I want to play it more, but to be honest, I'm so busy that I don't have much time to do any of it. I spend time in the Church, but I'm usually busy helping to do stuff and going to meetings that I can't play.

P-days are a blast! Especially in Malaysia! So, this week, we went to the Tip of Borneo! It was a four hour drive, so we got up at 5 AM and left. That's why I e-mailed so late last night. So we went to theseperfect beaches; like from Pirates of the Caribbean. The water was so blue and it's all tropical everywhere! I'll send you some pictures of that for sure! So we did that, took a lot of pictures, went to another, really rocky beach, took a ton of pictures, played a lot of games and just had a blast! I love P-days here! And our District is really tight and close because we all live like 2 minutes away from each other, which is really rare. The native Elders live in Kingfisher, so that's a little further, but it's still fun!

So this week we have been preparing the Area Book for the incoming missionaries. Elder Gong from the Area Presidency of the Seventy came to Mission Tour and taught us about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and how to use the First Vision in order to help people to come unto Christ. It was great! So we went to a Fireside, and that was about marriage, so not applicable as for now..... Friday we had a Young Men Activity--hiking Bukit Padang. I have some pictures of that too. That was a lot of fun!

So, spiritual experience!

So, Elder Schuetz and I were visiting a less-active, Danny Chu. So we were just going to share a short little scripture. Elder Schuetz turned to Alma and started giving the background of a scripture. Then the Spirit said, "Go to Enos." Enos 1: 4-5, to be exact. I kind of checked myself thinking, Is this my thoughts? But then it came again and I knew for sure that it was a prompting. I just had that kind of like "impulsive" motion in my heart. I don't know, it's hard to explain. The swelling of my heart, something begitu. So, I stopped Elder Schuetz in the middle of him explaining the scripture and changed it to Enos. He didn't know what was going on, but he flowed with it. So as Danny read and stuff, we asked (truly inspired) questions. Then at the end, the Spirit prompted me again. "Challenge him to pray on his knees, and to pray aloud." So I did, and Danny accepted. And then he came to Church on Sunday for the first time in like 4 years! I know it wasn't me, it was probably more of the youth, but I'm grateful that I had that experience, it was very neat and special!

So, that's my week! Not too exciting, but here's some pics!

1. This is a legit Kampung (village) house.
2. This is what was under said Kampung house. That's right; a cow, a goat, and a dog!

5. An Asian "Statue"

Well, I got to go, but I love you all! Bye!
