Tough Break

Things have been a little crazy at our house lately.  Cute little Kamryn turned eight a few weeks ago and was  really looking forward to being baptized Saturday morning...

Kamryn's baptism invitation

Instead, our sweet little eight year old spent Saturday morning in surgery...

Kam and dad, just before being wheeled off to surgery.  Turning your
little ones over to the anesthesiologist is a hard, hard, thing to do!

...while the doctor fixed her broken leg! Thursday afternoon, Kamryn went to her friend's house, who was also being baptized last Saturday.  They were practicing a song that they were going to sing together at their baptism.  After the practice, they went out side to jump on the trampoline, and Kamryn fell on her knee.  It was really painful and swollen, so Friday Rob came home from work early so he could help me get her to the doctor.  Rob had to carry her everywhere because she couldn't put any weight on her leg.  The doctor sent us for x-rays, and we found out that the top of her tibia had been broken off and rotated and had flipped up a little also.  No wonder she was in pain! So, the doctor called us and said, sorry, no baptism tomorrow, she'll be busy having surgery.
Even though she has been soooo excited for months, Kamryn was in too much pain to even care that her baptism had to be postponed.  We took her to the hospital Saturday morning, and by noon she was out of surgery.   Everything went well and she came out with a huge cast on her left leg.  She stayed in the hospital until Monday night, because we had a really hard time getting her pain under control.  Morphine worked, but only for about 45 minutes.  She spent a lot of time crying in between doses, and that was so hard for both of us.  I hate feeling helpless when my kids are hurting!  She was pretty miserable and it was a really hard thing for her (and mom and dad) to go through.  She was really brave, even though she was scared and hurting like crazy.  We are so proud of her!  She was such a good patient, and all of the nurses loved her. She had lots of visitors who brought her presents and all sorts of goodies.  We are thankful for all of the help and love!!!

This look says it all!

This cast will be her new best friend for the
next six weeks.

A (short and sweet) visit from the family Sunday

Kamryn feeling the love!

Mom and Lauren made sure her toenails were looking
good, freshly painted to peek out of her cast.

The weekend revolved around pain medication--thank goodness the
hospital had lots of movies for her to watch.  She didn't feel good
enough to do anything else!

Sipping on her favorite treat, a smoothie from
grandma and grandpa

One of the perks of a broken leg... lots of attention and presents!

Practicing with crutches

...and, we love Elder Griffin!

We are really, really happy that she's home with us again.  The hospital stay was rough for everyone!  After lots of experimenting with different combinations of meds, we finally have her pain under control and she is doing great.  She is camped out on the couch with a big box of craft supplies by her side, watching her favorite movies, and being waited on by all.  What could be better?  The doctor said to bring her in Monday for another x-ray, and we hope she can get back to school sometime next week.  Why is there never a dull moment?  I would absolutely LOVE a dull moment,...just a moment!

Wow!! That is some story and some cast. I am glad she is on the mend. I hate it when you feel helpless as parents and can't fix what is wrong with a kiss and a bandaid.
