From Elder Griffin: I Made It!

Ty sent an e-mail this morning.  I was glad to hear from that boy!!!  The mission president sent an e-mail and pictures about 30 minutes later.

Hey everyone!  Sorry to keep you waiting, its been a really busy week.

Okay, so like I said, we took a boat from Argentina to Montevideo which took about 3 hours, and then we met up with President and Hermana Da Silva at the port, and their assistants.  They took us all to the mission home.  Uruguay is so much better than Argentina.  This area is really really green, its almost exactly like Hawaii.  There are palm trees everywhere and it rains a ton.  Anyway, so we stayed in a hotel that the church owns right next to the mission home and the temple for the first night. Then the next day, we met with the president.  Unfortunately, we weren't able to go through a session, but we will soon.  So, my trainer's name is Elder Johnson, he is waaay awesome.  He's been out for 10 months and is from Idaho.  On pday (Monday) I'll send some pictures of everything.  Anyway, our area is about 30 minutes outside of the main city and the temple, so we're really close to the ocean end everything, and its awesome!  Our house is a tiny little stinky thing that has cement floors and spiders everywhere, haha.  Every morning I wake up with new bumps and stuff.  We live with the two zone leaders too, and they are both really nice.  Our area here is huuuuge.  Plus it takes us 30 minutes to walk from our house to the closest part of our area, so we've done a lot of walking already.   The ward is supposedly amazing.  And big.  We met with the bishop and his family last night and they fed us the best pizza I've ever had.  But anyway, there are some new rules that this mission president has, so here they are...

I can't open emails that aren't from my parents.  I just have to delete them.  So, if anyone wants to email me they have to have you forward it to me I guess.  I don't know much about mail yet, but we'll figure it out.  I'll give you all more info on Monday.  Also, there is an email address where anyone can write me a letter, and they'll print it off and give it to me, so that would be really nice too.  The address is urumontemission@gmail.com and you put Elder Griffin in the subject line.  Anyway, all is well here so don't worry about me!  Hope everything is okay at home!  I'll email more on Monday for sure and some pics too.

Love you all!
Elder Griffin

Dear Griffin family,

Today we went to the airport in Montevideo, Uruguay, to pick up Elder Griffin and welcome him into our mission.  He arrived a little tired, but full of excitement and enthusiasm to get to work.  We have spent the day with him getting to know him, and we have recognized that he will be an asset to us here in the mission.  With this time that we have had with him he has shown many talents that will be put to use in blessing the lives of many wonderful people.

Today was the day of transfers; he met his trainer and then headed off for his first area so that he could start "bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."  We are now sending you a photo that we took with him this afternoon.  As you can see, he is extremely excited and ready to start.  We are so excited to have your son with us and hope that you receive this photo with excitement and pride in all that your son has done to prepare himself for the opportunity that he now has to serve the Lord for the next two years.

Love,
The Da Silva's

President and Hermana Da Silva with Elder Griffin

Finally in Uruguay!
