From Elder Griffin: Crazy Week

This week has been crazy.  Its really tough starting from nothing, but we have been super blessed too.  We have found some investigators that we are teaching and we're trying to get them to progress to bautismo. Time is going fast though, it seems like I just got here, haha...well, I did.  But still, its going fast.  So, I've got a couple stories and I'll try to answer questions, but I've only got a few minutes.

One night, we were walking back to our house for the night, and we were just going to knock on a couple more doors to finish the night off.  We came up to a house that looked like it was abandoned....the lights were out and the window was broken and it was super scary, hah, so we shined our flash light in there, and something moved, it was a man!  He was huddled up in the corner in the dark like a scary movie, and he jumped up and said...hey who's there?  He invited us in to talk to him.  Turns out he actually is a member that was baptized like 6 months ago, and his wife and his kids left him, he has no money to pay for water or electricity in his house, so he hadn't showered for weeks, and there were empty fruit cups all over the cement floor and some moldy bread on the table that he had been eating.  He was also rolling some sort of drug and had empty wine bottles everywhere, it was super sad, and it was completely dark, so we had to use the flashlight we had for light.  We talked to him and he told us how he wanted to come back to the church, and so we talked a little more and we gave him a blessing, because he was honestly going crazy.  He was on drugs or something, I don't know, but we gave him a blessing and then he snapped out of whatever it was and shook our hands and started talking like normal, and we left soon after.  We are going to have to tell the bishop about it so someone can take care of him.   Its disappointing how the ward isn't as organized as it should be.  Anyway, so that was weird and super humbling too.  I've never been in a worse situation in my life, its crazy what Satan can do.

We also got robbed this week.  A drunk guy stole Elder Johnson's umbrella and started hitting me with it, and we're not allowed to fight back if we get stolen from unless its like life or death, so we just turned away and went down a different street.  Ha, it was just dumb, cause he was this little drunk man, and the only way he had enough courage to rob two tall Americans is cause he was wasted.  But, he probably needed it more than us.  But, generally this area is really safe.  So with mail here, the mission home brings a box to our house every Friday with any letters or packages that I got and then I put in a box anything I want to send, and they take it back and mail it off.  Also I got the urumontevideo gmail thing.  That works really well.  I haven't got my package yet, so hopefully it catches up.

Anyway, good news, we have two baptismal dates!!!  For the 23 of July, a couple that has a kid and isn't married (which is a problem, obviously) but we're super excited, and we're committing 3 more investigators to baptism tonight!  Sorry I can't put tons of details, I wish I had an hour but I know we'll be blessed if I'm obedient.  I have pics to send too, but I have to figure out how to do it, next week I guess.

Don't worry about me, the area is safe (mostly) and we're safe, and all is good.  I love you all!  Talk to you next week!
