Mail from Argentina: I Made It!

From Tyson Thursday morning (I'm a little slow!)

Hola everyone!

Today has been a lonnnng day and its only 11:15 here haha.  After I went through security in Salt Lake I went and waited at the gate to board the plane to Dallas and all of the 5 other elders met up with me and we went together.  That flight wasn't too bad but I was stuck in a tiny seat with a huge backpack and carry-on right next to one of the engines for 3 hours.  I had a huge headache when we landed, but it was cool cause I got to talk to one of the other Elders and get to know him a little bit.  After we got to the HUGE Dallas airport I was sitting waiting for everyone else and a sister missionary came up to me and said "Elder??".  She was flying to Argentina with us and she is from California.  All of the missionaries I flew down with are serving in Montevideo.  Sorry if I have a lot of typos...this keyboard is really weird.  Anyway, the flight to Argentina was rough, the airplane was a lot bigger but I can never sleep on planes so I just sat there with my eyes wide open for 12 hours.  I took Tylenol pm but it didn't do anything haha.  But, we finally got here and when we stepped off the airplane I could feel the sticky humidity and it felt like it was 90 degrees when it was only 60.  We all went through customs and picked up our bags and exchanged our money for Argentina pesos.  When we got out of the airport there was this short Argentinian woman with bright red hair (it was dyed) that didn't speak any English at all, and she was trying to get my attention so she could take us all to the taxi.  They all drive crazy down here.  No blinkers, no lights, no seat belts.  Just a free for all.  But that's how I drive anyway so its ok.  When we finally got the the MTC it wasn't quite what I expected. There are barbed wire fences all around it and it kind of looks like a prison haha.  But its good, the temple is right next to us but its still being remodeled. So far everything is going great, though!  I realized I don't speak any Spanish haha, this is going to be a rough couple of months.  I guess every Saturday the missionaries in the MTC go out and knock on doors in Buenos Aires for training...so that will be interesting.  I haven't had a chance to take any pictures yet but don't worry they'll be coming!  I just met with the mission president and he is really nice, lunch is at noon and then he said we can all take a nap before our first class at five.  We are all about to go find our rooms and unpack now.

Well, I hope everything is okay back in America...its so much different here, but it'll be awesome once I get used to it.

Love you all!!!
Elder Griffin
