Elder Joshua Griffin: Everything is Fantastic!

Apa khabar, keluarga saya?! Hey guys, how are you?

Everything here is fantastic!  It isn't actually as hot as I thought it was, but suffice it to say that it's really humid!  I ride my bike for a half hour, and no joke, my backpack is wet from my sweat.  And my face just has sweat dripping down it all of the time, but that's okay, because it helps to show I'm working really hard!  So many miracles this week, where do I begin?

Okay, so, a couple days ago, I looked in the mirror, and I was brushing my teeth or something, and after I finished rinsing, I saw something on my tonsils. So I looked, and, as luck would have it, I was probably strep throat. So I said a prayer that it would go away and it did!  Like all the white filmy stuff and the dots of white stuff on my tonsils just disappeared right after my prayer!  It was so cool!

Another one: I was riding my bike in an area called Donggongon and my bike chain snapped . So some Malaysians came and helped me to fix it even though it took the better part of an hour.  And they were all smoking and all had earrings, but they were so nice and stuff!  I love the people here already!
I don't know, there's just so many little miracles every single day!  Like yesterday, we were teaching four people: Jamiah, Julia (she's a member), Rosy, and Victor. Rosy has only visited with us twice and she committed to baptism on the same day as Victor, January 26, and Jamiah is being baptized January 12.  We have a lot of potential investigators, but they're always really hard to get ahold of and get them to commit to really anything. We have about 5 or 6 progressive investigators, but we're thinking of dropping one named Chris. He's cool, but he's just not progressing and so he's kind of wasting our time, so we are most likely going to drop him.  It's really sad, but it's for the better of the people of KK.  We can't waste our time on somebody that isn't progressing when there are more people still looking for the Gospel.

One thing that I hate, is that we can't teach Muslims.  It's illegal, and so even though they are so ready to receive the Gospel, we still can't teach them.  So that's really hard, but I shouldn't be complaining, they'll all receive it someday!

Okay, so Mom, I'll start answering your questions.  And I'm sorry, I already opened the Christmas presents, but I had to because I couldn't take them through immigration like that (in the boxes) through the airport.  Sorry, but I love all of the things you sent me!  Thank you so much!  I think that I did leave my camera charger in Singapore, so I'm buying another one today, so hopefully it's only about 75 ringgit. I really hope that it will be good.  Zone Conference was really good!  We talked about remembering the real reason of Christmas and following Christ.  We also reported on all of our investigators.

And for flying to Singapore, it takes about 3 hours.  We leave KK and fly for two hours, land in KL and switch flights, and then we're on a 55 minute flight to Singapore.  Why isn't it a one-way flight? Tak tahu, tapi itu okay.  (I don't know, but it's okay.)  My comp is still really cool, he's legit.  My apartment is actually really big.  We have two offices, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room where we all sleep.  The whole apartment is maybe as big as our upstairs at home.  It's sad though, Jamiah's home is about as big as Zac's bedroom, and it's all cement.

My mission president is really good, and he's huge on following rules and becoming Preach My Gospel missionaries, so we focus on that a lot.  Our ward has about 60-70 really strong members.  They are all so cool and I love little Malaysian kids!  You should totally adopt one, but make sure that they already speak Malay!  Most of my lessons are in Malay, but a lot of members know English and they like to practice it, so they speak to me in English and I answer in Malay!  It's so much fun!

So my area, I live in Marina Court, which is a pretty rich part of KK. But Beverly Hills, where we contact, and Donggongon are poorer.  They have these nasty dogs and cats with terrible mange, and then they have rats everywhere, like rats the size of two or three hot dog buns put together.  But it's kinda cool to see.  I haven't eaten too many weird foods.  I have had durian, romoton, prawns, and a lot of masala dosa, and it's all really good.  I usually eat Mi Sedaap (Delicous Noodles) and Roti for my meals at my house, but we eat out a few times a day because groceries are actually more expensive than eating out.  So, my comp and I found a village, (called a Kampung in Malay), and we are going to try to teach the whole village, so wish us luck.  And if I can, I'll take pictures of the Japanese skulls that the headhunters keep in their houses, so be prepared!

I have an hour for p-day writing, and I think I have an hour to Skype. I am Skyping (Utah time) at 8 pm, on Christmas Day. So be ready, okay?  The traffic here is crazy.  We bike and they don't have crosswalks or biking lanes, so you cross when you think that you won't get hit by a car.  I've almost been hit about seven times, by buses and trucks, but it's okay, because I know that the Lord is looking our for me.  There are angels everywhere, here, I'm sure.  It's really fun here!

My address for MAIL is:
Unit B 7-12, Marina Court Condominiums
88000 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
East Malaysia

As for packages, send them to Singapore, but don't sent too many.  I go every three months for visa renewals and Zone Conference.  As for any other questions you have, let me know if I missed any.

How is everybody in the family?  Is everybody okay?  MERRY CHRISTMAS!  So yeah, don't worry, I'm doing well and staying safe!  I love you a lot!  Bye!

Selamat Tinggal dan ingat untuk mengikuti Kristus,
Elder Joshua H. Griffin
