Saying Goodbye to Grandpa

Rob's dad, Lewis Lorenzo Griffin, passed away last Saturday morning, April 24. We received a phone call from Rob's sister Jolene at 3:30 a.m., and we were able to go to his parent's home with his sister and brothers and meet there to be with Rob's mom. Grandpa had been sick with Parkinson's disease for the past few years, and had not been feeling well, but we were still surprised to hear he had passed away. We will miss him, but he had a long and happy life. It's been an emotional week, but one filled with happy memories for our family.

Rob and I at the cemetery

We had grandpa's funeral yesterday, and it was so nice. Rob spoke, Josh played grandma and grandpa's love song, Claire de Lune, and Tyson was a pall bearer. It was a nice day and the sun even came out for us at the cemetery.

A few weeks before grandpa died, grandma had to go out of town for her sister's funeral. The family took turns staying with grandpa while she was gone. Rob stayed overnight Sunday night with his dad, and then I went over Monday morning with Lauren and Kamryn so Rob could go to work. We were able to fix his breakfast and visit with him until grandma came home that afternoon. We will always be thankful for the opportunity that we had to be with him that day. That was the last time we were able to see him before he died. When it was time for us to leave, he hugged each of us and thanked us for helping him. Then he and grandma walked us out to our car in the driveway. He hugged Lauren and Kamryn again, and then gave me a big, long, hug. He told me how much he loved me and thanked me for taking care of him and always being so good to him. I was able to tell him I loved him too, and it was a nice memory that the girls and I will always have. We are so thankful we were able to be there that day.

We will miss him-it's hard to believe he is gone, but we know he is happy, and are thankful that we will be together again. Goodbye grandpa, we love you!

The funeral yesterday was very nice, and brought back a lot of nice memories of Lewis and Jean. I have always enjoyed their friendship, and have been grateful that such good people were the other set of grandparents to 12 of our grandchildren. We will miss him too.
